    This very common disease causes swelling in the heel in cattle. They often run a temperature and are much cut up by it. The traditional treatment in Erris is to draw blood by drawing a sharp cord backwards and forwards between the claws of the hoof. In other parts the practice is to scar the swolen heel with a razor blade, which often gives instand relief. the common name is "fowl" in the Midlands.
